about

Dominoes explores the tension between two people acting on their worst impulses at the expense of one another.

Pony and I co-wrote this song via text message, and it took a formative turn when he used "we're playing dominoes" in his original verse lines. The image of one person's bad decision creating a chain reaction of destruction was perfect, and I found the central metaphor I was looking for, which guided the final form of the song. I can almost imagine one domino saying to its neighbor "Don't bring me down with you!"

lyrics

Lonesome Los Angeles
Sunny and blue
I slept with a stranger
Cuz he wasn’t you
Now your feeling reckless
High on your pain
And we’re stacking dominoes
It’s a dangerous game

Don’t bring me down with ya honey
Don’t bring me down just yet
I wanted to be a soft place to land
Not the ashtray for your cigarette

I like a wild taste
I keep it loose
I am who i am
She's a friend i could use
Her eyes could paint your house
A law to abide
It’s easy stacking dominoes
When you’re on the same side

Don’t bring me down with ya honey
Don’t bring me down just yet
I was just looking for a soft place to land
You were a beautiful bet

Don't it feel good to be wanted
And don’t it feel good to be seen
And don’t it feel good to believe that
These bones could be anything

Floating around aimless
Unmoored and untied
You haunt me in parallel
Unseen by my side
Don’t you turn to me
Don’t you start to regret
It's easy stacking dominoes
You just hold your breath

Don’t bring me down with ya honey
Don’t bring me down yet
I wa just looking for a soft place to land
There's two sides on every set
